Who targeted you, why and who pays them? (发薪日)

This is my second blog post. I would like to talk about targeting; why and who.

Essentially in the world of operations there are types:

  1. Legitimate warranted
  2. Illegitimate unwarranted
  3. Grey (ignored)

Firstly I will cover legitimate cyber operations.
To understand targeting you must first understand your state of existence and who else wishes to have the same situation, and also who's jurisdiction you sit within.

There are many good examples that can be found in the American defense sector. These companies create weapons and vehicles for the United States military and of course the research is expensive, often costing hundreds of millions and sometimes billions of dollars. Operations such as some launched against BAE were considered legitimate and for the purpose of informational research purposes only.

Then there are illegitimate operations. These are because of corruption, greed and misguidance. These operations are not sanctioned and not for defensive purposes but for monetary gain and sometimes launched against organizations who make a retaliation. I am deeply saddened to see that many senior military officers are involved in this. Furthermore, this corruption runs deep in the veins of the industry. There are many parties involved, military and civilian. I feel this is a cancer that must be removed quickly and without mercy.

Finally there are 'grey' operations. These are conducted by the industry of private sector sometimes to deliver an item before it has been asked for. Unfortunately many of these operations are not sanctioned. Companies of private sector often do this. Sometimes individual people who are working for public sector make grey operations in their free time. There is a lack of discipline in civilians.

It is common to see these operations happening in the same place at the same time.
